The majority of Thais want the emergency decree lifted now

In a recent survey conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), 1,259 people over the aged 18, with various education levels, the majority of the people want the emergency decree lifted. The coronavirus situation is much improved and Thailand is reporting only single digit new cases daily.

WANT THE EMERGENCY DECREE LIFTED

According to the poll, 57.74% of the people wanted the emergency decree lifted now. Of the respondents, 35.98% strongly believe the emergency decree should be lifted, while 21.76% mildly agree.

OPPOSED TO LIFTING THE EMERGENCY DECREE

Of the respondents, 15.15% are opposed to lifting the decree. Of those opposed 25.74% were strongly against it. Many sighting that they want to make sure that there is no second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

LIFTING THE CURFEW

Regarding the curfew, 41.22% polled believed that the government should continue to enforce the 10:00pm-4:00am curfew; 33.68% said the curfew should be lifted.

Interesting enough, many Thais think the curfew should start at a later time with 40.73% thinking that midnight-4:00am would be better.

RE-OPENING BARS AND PUBS

So, should bars and pubs be the next group to open? Of those polled, the vast majority (78.87%) stated a resounding “NO”. Thais are worried that re-open bars to soon could spark the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

FREEDOM OR HEALTH

Asked whether freedom and health is more important, 83.80% said health is more important; 12.87% said freedom was more important to them.
