Thailand Global Pandemic Update - June 1, 2020

Posted By Paul Xumsai on June 01, 2020 in World News

Due to the global pandemic, Thailand is under emergency decree. This means that the country is under centralized government control. Under the decree, the government has been enforcing a strict lockdown and curfew policy. Many business industries have been forced to shutdown. Domestic and international flights are shutdown (with few exceptions). Only essential businesses are allowed to remain open.

During the emergency decree, every province is accountable for providing a coronavirus update to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). CCSA is Thailand’s command center for the coronavirus. Because of this, many of the province, districts, and even neighborhoods have enforced zoned quarantines. For example, Phuket shutdown the airport and closed the bridge for 30 days. No one in/out for 30 days.

District to district shutdown have been applied in many of the top destinations. Checkpoints are setup all over the country. In fact, the locals are the ones reporting strangers to the authority.

Business implications due to COVID-19

Because of the pandemic, many businesses have been forced to shutdown or operate at limited capacity.

We have been forced to shutdown most of our operation.

Our agents are required to work from home.

Only one unit is operating and one staff per shift.

We are getting ~30% of the normal inquires. This is inline with many of the developers we’ve talked to.

Our international clients can’t travel.

The Thai government has not deemed whether or not real estate is essential services. The reality is, Thai people are scared of the coronavirus. Even a month prior to the lockdown, malls have been running at about 20% capacity. Thai people have elected to stay at home on their own free will.

As of today, many industries are open for business, but travel is still restricted.

Thailand has the coronavirus under control (my opinion). The infection rate is mostly signal digits per day. Most of the new cases are caught from the airport from Thai’s who have returned home from foreign countries.

Even with the virus under control, the emergency decree has been extended for another month.

This is the situation in Thailand.
