PANDEMIC UPDATE

After a late start, it seems that Thailand has been crushing the global pandemic known as the coronavirus. In March 2020, the country is declared a state of emergency. This allowed to government to take control and centralize all communication and commands.

The country then implemented and nation-wide lockdown and curfew policy. Businesses were asked to have employees work from home. Shopping centers, theaters, restaurants and bars were forced to shut down. And eventually, all international flights are banned.

To localize and quarantine the coronavirus, many provinces and districts deployed their own lockdown. Phuket closed their airports and borders for a minimum of 30 days. No one was allowed in or out of the island resort.

In an effort to prevent large gather and parties, alcohol sale was prohibited.

For the safety and well being of the entire country, Thai citizens cooperated with the all the pandemic mandate. The entire nation faced hardship together to reduce risk.

BENDING THE CURVE

The infection rate is Thailand is near zero now, with no reported death. The country is still under emergency decree, but have relaxed most of the lockdown mandates.

Most businesses are allowed to open, as long as social distance guidelines are followed. Thailand is in phase 4 of the lockdown easing. The nation-wide curfew has been lifted. Bars, convention halls, and stadium-type events still remain closed.

All the infections are from Thais returning home from other countries. Because of this, the travel restriction for international flights may be extended beyond July 1, 2020.

As Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease in Thailand over the coming weeks, the country is putting together a strategy to revive the economy.
